A return to our hospitality heritage

Halcyon Hotels

The Medich family has a rich heritage in the hotel sector, having developed and managed the El Toro and Stardust Hotels in the 1960s and 1970s, creating a focal point for the local communities during that time.

In 2011 Medich Corporation founded Halcyon Hotels to acquire a portfolio of hotels that provided a repositioning opportunity. Well known Sydney hotels such as the Woolwich Pier Hotel, Hotel Centennial, Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel and the Buena Vista Hotel were acquired. Their prime locations offer quality destinations for dining and entertainment – a return to the ‘halcyon days’ of hotel hospitality.

Woolwich Pier Hotel was renovated and reopened in October 2013. In 2014 it was voted Best Pub in SMH Good Pub Guide 2014 and received the Three Schooner Award for three years in a row, the only hotel in NSW to do so. Woolwich Pier Hotel also received the Time Out Sydney 2015 Pub Revival Award. In July 2015 it was sold to the Laundy Group.

The Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel is a Sydney centrepiece venue, with spectacular views of the city skyline and harbour. The venue has approved plans for a rooftop bar, to view artist’s impression click here. It was sold in 2016 to the Laundy Group.

Halcyon Hotels lodged DA plans for the Buena Vista Hotel in early 2015 for the repositioning of the hotel. It was sold in August 2015 to the Public House Group.

Hotel Centennial was renovated and reopened in April 2014 with a renewed emphasis on dining. Executive Chef Justin North has created a menu focusing on classic, good value comfort food. Hotel Centennial received the 2014 Best New/Re-developed Hotel in the AHA NSW Awards for Excellence. Halcyon Hotels continues to own and operate Hotel Centennial.
