The name of this estate honours an outstanding Hunter Valley local – the late Jack Murray (pictured below).

Jack Murray grew up in Campbell Field near Campbelltown NSW on a working dairy farm where he  spent his early years delivering milk to the locals on a horse drawn carriage. In later years his passion moved to motor racing where he became one of the pioneers to the early days of rallying in Australia. His first major event was the 1956 Ampol Round Australia trial where he finished an impressive 3rd outright and first in his class driving an FJ Holden. His feat was repeated in the 1957 Mobilgas Round Australia Trial where he again finished 1st in his class again this time driving a V8 Chrysler Royal.

Jack moved to Maitland in 1965 & set up several automotive businesses in the region including Maitland Motors, Maitland Renault & Peugeot, Singleton Toyota, Wyong Chrysler and many more automotive related businesses.

His passion for driving continued and he became known as one of the most successful & accomplished rally drivers Australia had ever produced. Jack competed in both London to Sydney Marathons in 1968 and 1977 & was widely acknowledged for driving the first Marathon entirely without a driver change – a mammoth feat surely never to be repeated again.

Jack Murray was a proud Hunter Valley resident, businessman, sportsman & family man.
